Sales Engineer/Estimator – Structural Steel Engineer

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ability to read engineering/architectural drawings, specification, BOQ’s etc and provide an accurate quotation.
  • Ability to produce engineering/architectural drawings and sketches.
  • Ability to take site surveys when required.
  • Full driving license essential.
  • CSCS card advantageous.
  • SSSTS card advantageous.
  • Ensure all customers are treated with respect and dealt with in a professional manner.
  • Chase up and manage Warm Leads/ Live Opportunities.
  • Ensure agreed delivery dates are met.
  • Carry out estimating as required by clients and in a timely manner.
  • Track costs and handle all project variations from estimation through to receipt of order.
  • Formally handover secured order and all drawings and details to the production team.
  • Ensure job cards, sketches, drawings are clearly understood and issue them as required to workshop.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed.

 

Experience Required:

  • AutoCAD: 1 year (preferred)
  • Engineering: 4 years (preferred)

Salary: Dependent on experience

Hours: Full-time role based at West Craigs Quarry, Edinburgh.

Mon – Thurs 7am – 3:30pm
Fri 7am -2:30pm

Fabrication Department Sales and Estimating Engineer – Edinburgh Based

Job Role

Blake Group is recruiting for a Fabrication Department Sales and Estimating Engineer to join the firm’s growing Fabrication Division on a permanent basis.

To be considered for the opportunity requires experience in steel manufacturing from initial customer enquiry to after-sales support.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Reactive and proactive sales activities to assist in growing the Fabrication Division
  • Review of documentation and specification requirements for client projects
  • Evaluate supplier quotations placing purchase orders in line with budgets and quotations
  • Provide clients with advice on best practice
  • Proactively support Metal Centre Division on projects where both divisions collaborate
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of and adhere to ‘Safety at Work’ standards

Reporting to the General Manager, the appointed Sales and Estimating Engineer will also demonstrate:

  • Efficient problem solving and clear communication with supervisors and staff
  • Engage with clients, suppliers and staff in a positive and friendly manner
  • Embrace the collaborative culture of a well-established close-knit team
  • Carry out all estimating requirements including review of contract, T & Cs and producing quotations with James Blake T & Cs.
  • On occasions you will be approached by clients with a minimal design brief which will require development to a final engineered approved scheme.
  • Ensure all information received from the client including drawings, specifications, BOQs etc is comprehensive enough to provide an accurate quotation.
  • If the project`s design changes, advise on possible cost implications and cost variations.
  • Track costs and handle all project variations from estimation through to receipt of order.
  • Attend pre-order / pre-start meetings as necessary to secure the project.
  • Formally handover secured order and all drawings and details to the production team.
  • Price variations to orders including reviewing any changes to project scope.
  • Chase up and manage Warm Leads / Live Opportunities.
  • Project Manage as required and cover supervision, client liaison and all necessary documentation working with Site Project.
  • Produce monthly quotation record sheets working with other estimators.
  • Produce working drawings as required.
  • Assist Metal Centre and repeat above with respect to incoming enquiries.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-years professional mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience as a CAD designer (“Draft sight” preferable, but not essential)
  • Moderate to high proficiency estimating projects using “Microsoft Excel”
  • Experience of working across multi-discipline projects, liaising with clients and suppliers
  • Self-starter with a flexible attitude and experience of effective working in a small team
  • Skilled with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc)

Salary: Dependent on experience

Hours: Full-time role, 39 hours per week based at West Craigs Quarry, Edinburgh.

Annual Leave: 33-days annual holiday entitlement

Fabricator Welder

Job Role

Acting in a professional and reliable way you will be fabricating and welding to drawing specifications, and both written and verbal instructions.

Duties & Responsibilities

We expect all staff to maintain our high quality and safety standards and to communicate in a polite and friendly manner at all times.

  • Fabricate and weld to a high standard of quality in a timely manner.
  • Operate machinery and plant, including hand tools, power tools, and forklift truck.
  • Read and understand technical drawings.
  • Work both as part of a team and unsupervised in a safe and trustworthy manner.
  • Be able to solve problems with limited or no input from your line manager.

Requirements & Package

  • A full, clean driving license.
  • Forklift certification.
  • CSCS card beneficial.

Semi-Skilled Operative

Job Role

Acting in a professional and reliable way you will provide assistance to your colleagues, including (but not limited to) cleaning, painting, and kitting/fitting-out of fabricated items. Working in partnership with your shop floor colleagues and taking instruction from your line manager, acting at all times in a professional manner to the benefit of the company.

  • Operate machinery and plant, including hand and power tools.
  • Fabricate, weld, and paint to a reasonable standard of quality.
  • Read and understand basic drawings.
  • Work both as part of a team and unsupervised in a safe and trustworthy manner.
  • Take deliveries to sites with the use of Pickup trucks.

  • Forklift certification.
  • CSCS card beneficial.
