We have worked on many projects for Graciela Ainsworth at Graciela Ainsworth Sculpture Conservation including creating metal structures and supports for items in the Burrell Collection. This case study gives an insight into a few more of the projects.
National Trust for Scotland – Falkland Palace
The Metal Centre was asked by GASC to manufacture bespoke stainless steel 316 grade fixings designed by David Narro Associates, to support deteriorating water spouts at NTS Falkland Palace. GASC installed the brackets to take some of the weight off the water spouts, ensuring there is less stress imparted on the stone and the water spouts’ longevity will be increased. Once secured on site they were painted so as not to distract the eye.
The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh
The Metal Centre has provided us 316 stainless steel fixings for many of the sculptures on the outside of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. GASC has been carrying out Conservation works on the sculptures and securing the sculptures to the building using these fixings for structural security.
The fixings were painted out on site to be less visible.
Glasgow School of Art: Reid Building
Conserved Plaster casts of Luca Della Robbia’s Cantoria, GSA Plaster Cast Collection, after the 2014 fire. The supporting brackets were designed by David Narro Associates with GASC and manufactured and installed by The Metal Centre with Graciela Ainsworth Sculpture Conservation team for display within the GSA Reid Building.
Top and bottom fixings manufactured and installed to display the Glasgow School of Arts fire damaged and very fragile Cantoria plaster casts.
